Infinity Ward has remained cagey on how whether the much-maligned Martyrdom perk from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will be returning for the hotly anticipated Modern Warfare 2, but has teased that it will be "treated differently".
The developer has also moved to reassure fans concerned over the introduction of the Riot Shield, claiming it won't unbalance multiplayer.
The Martyrdom perk, as fans of CoD 4 will know, gives players a chance to kill opposing players in a "from the grave" style. With the perk enabled, players will automatically drop a live grenade when they are killed. Many consider the perk "cheap", as it can often lead to automatic death following close quarters fighting.
Speaking to VideoGamer.com, Joel Emslie, lead character artist on Modern Warfare 2, refused to be drawn on Infinity Ward's plans for the perk, but did offer a titbit of information.
"It's not in the beta... I can't talk about it!," he said.
"We are very, very aware of the community and what they like and don't like, and Martyrdom has caught our attention. I'm happy with how the game is.
"It's [Martyrdom] treated differently. And I will say this - it fits in perfectly."
Modern Warfare 2 also introduces the new riot shield, a portable cover that takes up a primary weapon slot.
Some fans have expressed concern that the Riot Shield, which makes players almost invulnerable when used, will unbalance Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer.
Emslie, however, denied this.
"There's always a counter-measure to everything in the game," he told us.
"Every element that's been added and is brand new to multiplayer has been painstakingly tested by us, our own worst critics. We've had shouting matches about changes, very passionate heated debates about what works and what doesn't work.
"We would add a new element, go play it, and then people would come storming into [lead multiplayer designer] Todd Alderman's office to say, "Why did you change this?! What were you even thinking?! I played CoD 4 and this is the way I loved it! Why are you changing it?". I can guarantee you that the stuff we pushed off to the side and didn't put in the game would blow you away."

Infinity Ward are famous! Famous for being the guys behind Call of Duty, and...and...well, that's it. Just Call of Duty.
But don't tell them that! Because one day, IW would like to do something new. Heck, they think they're doing something new already, community manager Robert Bowling telling Videogamer "When we feel like we can't innovate any further in the Call of Duty franchise, then we'll do something else.
"A lot of that mentality went into Modern Warfare 2. That's why it's Modern Warfare 2. It is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but you'll never see that in game. We never call it that. It's because we think of this as a new IP. This is our Modern Warfare 2 game. So we are constantly doing new stuff."

Fifa, you must be thinking, what’s so different about this one then? apart from player on the front of the case, you do the same thing just score goals to win a match really. Is there truly anything else? Well, you are right about the guy on the front, apart from Ronaldinho every year it’s now Rooney. However times change, Ronaldo no longer at Manchester United, Real Madrid with a dominant team And 360 Dribbling, instead of the 8 player direction there is now double, giving you and the player more freedom to run in all directions, instead of straight lines. Improved goal keeping, defending and attacking attributes gives you more sense of realistic play than any other Fifa game released. New ideas such as Game Faces lets you take a picture of your face and render it into the game, which means your face will be characterised into the game so instead of aligning your facial hairs to the nearest mm in game, this can do that all for you. You can select your Game Face on the new Be A Pro mode, Manager Mode and even upload it to the internet to Be A Pro online with friends.
This brings me onto my next point, Online. Once again like last year Live season will be back for this year’s Fifa game. Giving you latest player form and results, you can play Be A Pro matches just like last year with a 10 v 10 situation with improved servers you are unlikely to disconnect (this being the problem last year). The Demo was released on the 10th of September which gave Hardcore Fifa fans and even Pro fans to have a quick go on the latest Fifa. The reviews were positive, fans liking the idea of the new 360 dribbling and improved player attributes, it seems a lot more realistic and you have a sense of freedom and skill when playing Fifa. The new “quick free kick” option lets you take quick free kicks without the game stopping for any subs to come on, which keeps the game alive and interesting. Free kicks have become a lot harder, along with crosses and corners, try scoring a header or a free kick, it feels “Special”. That you have achieved something great.
The new Fifa definitely gave people something to look forward to this October, I’ll be waiting for the game to release. Will you?
